Democrats got hit upside the head with some really bad news.

Their 2026 election prospects are crashing and burning before their very eyes.

And Chuck Schumer’s response to this ugly sex scandal hit Democrats like a freight train.

Defeating Maine Republican Susan Collins is the linchpin of the Democratic Party’s hopes of winning a majority in the U.S. Senate.

There is no realistic path to flipping the four seats necessary to end GOP control without winning Maine.

That hill just became that much steeper after POLITICO published a bombshell story where Jenny Racicot alleged that Democrat Graham Platner raped her while the two were dating in 2021.

“Racicot said she had an on-and-off relationship with Platner, who is now the Democratic Senate nominee in Maine, for more than two years before he entered her rural Maine home uninvited one night in late 2021, deeply intoxicated, and forced himself on her while she repeatedly told him to stop. She said she cut off contact with him after telling him the encounter was not consensual,” POLITICO reported.

Racicot described the alleged assault.

“I remember him grabbing my pelvis and being really forceful with me,” Racicot said in an interview with POLITICO. “I remember the specific moment when I thought to myself, like, ‘This is no longer my choice.’”

Racicot accused Platner of breaking into her house, forcing himself on her, and having sex without using a condom.

“He violated multiple layers of consent that night. By coming into my home when I asked him not to, and by advancing on me when I told him not to, and another incident that I had told him not to do,” Racicot added.

“In that moment, I evaluated my safety.… I basically felt safest just complying,” Racicot went on to say.

In a recorded statement, Platner denied the allegations, but said he was canceling his current campaign schedule to assess the best path forward.

“Any accusation of nonconsensual behavior is categorically false,” Platner stated. “Regardless of the inaccuracy of the reporting, but mindful of the political reality it will inflict, we are taking the time to reflect on the best path forward for the state I love, the people that I love, the movement I belong to, and the goal of defeating Susan Collins.”

Maine allows Democrats to replace Platner on the ballot before July 13.

Chuck Schumer and fellow New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand tried to force Platner out of the race by announcing that the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee would pull all funding from Maine as long as Platner was the candidate.

“The DSCC will not invest in the Maine Senate race if Platner remains on the ballot,” a statement from Schumer and Gillibrand read.

Platner’s biggest boosters yanked their endorsements.

“I’ve been very clear that sexual assault or violence against women is a red line. These allegations are very serious and credible. Graham Platner should drop out of the race. I am withdrawing my endorsement,” California Congressman Ro Khanna wrote on X.

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren said Platner should “step aside as the Democratic nominee and address these serious allegations outside this Senate race.”

Platner was a scandal-plagued and risky candidate from the start.

And this story looks like a coordinated maneuver from the Democrat Party to dump a weak challenger in the hopes of choosing a stronger candidate, much in the same way Democrats forced Joe Biden out of the 2024 race once it became clear it was impossible to hide his senility.
