Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar is in hot water.
There is no getting around it at this point.
And then Ilhan Omar said five words that left Megyn Kelly speechless.
The federal probe into whether Ilhan Omar attempted to commit immigration fraud by marrying her brother is heating up.
Federal authorities raided her home.
Investigators collected DNA evidence and seized her sister’s phone.
The search warrant for Omar’s home indicated that Ilhan Omar isn’t even her real name, but that it’s Ilhan Nur Said Elmi.
If Omar is guilty of immigration fraud, she faces denaturalization and deportation to her home country of Somalia.
Feeling the heat, Omar tried to push out her spin on events in what she figured would be a softball interview with MS NOW’s Chris Hayes.
It turned into a disaster.
And that’s because of her answer to Hayes’ question about whether she married her brother.
OMAR: Not that I know of.
HAYES: There’s not some weird kernel of truth that’s through some game of telepathy?
OMAR: Not to my knowledge.
On her podcast, Megyn Kelly, a trained lawyer, exclaimed Omar’s answer was “Unbelievable.”
“Unbelievable. Not to my knowledge. That’s unbelievable. I mean, that’s literally unbelievable. There’s a reason she phrased it that way,” Kelly continued.
Kelly explained that Omar offered up a very lawyerly response to a simple yes or no question because her attorneys are trying to shield her from further criminal liability.
“She is trying to avoid criminal liability. That’s why she said that knowing is an element of the crime that she’s potentially looking at their statute of limitations or not to prove that she knew he was her relative would be an element of the crime,” Kelly added.
“And she’s clearly told the federal investigators that it’s not to her knowledge that she married her brother, which is her only escape, because she very much did, according to all of the evidence that has been assembled by very strong reporters like Scott Johnson of Powerline and our friend from Alpha News the other day, like the evidence appears overwhelming that she married her brother,” Kelly continued.
To further demonstrate that point, Kelly played a clip of how Omar responded to a reporter from Lindell TV asking her if she married her brother.
LINDELL TV: Can you just tell us straight up, did you marry your brother?
REP. ILHAN OMAR: Absolutely not. What a ridiculous thing to ask.
Did you marry your brother?
LINDELL TV: Absolutely not.
OMAR: Absolutely not. That’s disgusting. Nobody should be doing that.
LINDELL TV: Why are you being criminally investigated?
OMAR: I am not.
LINDELL TV: Yes, you are.
OMAR: I am not.
LINDELL TV: Well, then Tom Homan’s a liar or what?
OMAR: He is. He’s been saying some dumb **** like you.
LINDELL TV: Oh, thank you, Congresswoman.
This time Kelly told her audience to focus on how Omar answered the question, with a “convincing statement” – calling the question disgusting – and her high-pitched tone.
Kelly reminded the audience of her frequent guest, Phil Houston, a CIA interrogator for 25 years who was trained in detecting deception.
“We’ve had him on the show many times. He’s the human lie detector, CIA, 25 years, discovering double agents working against the United States for half of it and discovering double agents within the CIA at Langley for the other half. He wrote the books by the lie, have taken his class many times,” Kelly stated.
“One of the main indicators of deception is convincing statements,” Kelly stated. “OK, so that’s disgusting. Nobody should be doing that. Again, it’s a convincing statement.
Kelly highlighted Omar’s profane attack on her questioner as another tell.
“And then the third indicator of deception is he’s a dumb **** like you. Attacking aggression against the questioner and attacking the questioner and the questioner. These are classic signs of deception,” Kelly told her audience.
Kelly then fell back on her legal training to explain why Omar’s lawyers instructed her to use weasel words when answering if she married her brother.
“She’s trying not to do that because she doesn’t want to rejigger the five-year statute of limitations on perjury, on lying. To federal investigators, which they’ve gotten, you know, that’s what they got Mike Flynn on. So she’s got to stick with that new story, not to my knowledge, when she’s sitting across from MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, it’s as plain as the nose on your face,” Kelly concluded.
