The biggest hurdle facing Republicans in the midterm elections is the high gas prices that resulted from the war with Iran.
Wrapping the conflict up in victory will lower prices at the pump and boost the GOP’s chances of retaining its majorities in the House and Senate.
Right now, the conflict is locked in a protracted stalemate as hostilities are on pause, but oil isn’t flowing through the Strait of Hormuz at pre-war levels, which is keeping gas prices high.
A U.S. Naval blockade is strangling the Iranian economy as it’s able to ship zero barrels of oil.
In an interview on Fox News, Kennedy described the conditions as favorable to America since it has Iran in a vice grip.
“The sanctions, the blockade, for a while. Of course, everyone has an eye on the price of oil. But it’s about $88 today, $88 and change. I’m not minimizing the rise in the price of gasoline. Nobody wants that. But on exported oil, not Iranian exported oil, the world’s oil is actually getting through. We don’t know how much, and they won’t tell us, but I think you also have to keep perspective,” Kennedy began.
Kennedy then offered his solution to ending the war, which was just to come home, since it was impossible to negotiate with the regime and America had achieved its objectives, such as degrading Iran’s nuclear program and ability to project power.
“Number one, some people say, make a deal. Dealing with the Iranian government is like dealing with a wild pack of monkeys. I mean, they’re crazy. You can’t — you can’t take their word. I wouldn’t take their word for the same reason that I don’t drink water out of a toilet. You can’t trust them. Number two, we have accomplished most of what we went into Iran. We have degraded their military. We’ve degraded their economy. I mean, we’ve torn them into an ashtray. It will take them 20 years to climb out of the hole,” Kennedy began.
As for the Strait of Hormuz, Kennedy proposed just leaving it as is since America currently controlled the Strait and more barrels of oil flowed through it by the day.
“And I don’t have an answer for that. But in the meantime, I don’t think anybody does,” Kennedy added. “That’s up to the Iranians. It would be an option. I’m not saying I would do it, but it would certainly be an option at some point, now that we’ve accomplished most of our goals, for us to come home.”
